Are we putting our wins in the bin and why?

I was on the bus the other day and I spotted a bin. There was a ripped piece of paper with the word WINS on it (ah now I wish I had taken a photo of it). This got me thinking: Isn’t it what we do indeed? Try so hard to get somewhere or something that we consider a win and soon after throw it with ease like rubbish in the trash.

Human beings are in general set up this way. Always striving for more. It does sometimes get addictive. Get the next promotion, get more money, more trips, more clothes, a newer car, a bigger house. Isn’t it then a pointless race towards something that will end up forgotten anyway? Are we destined to never be fulfilled by what we achieve in the long term?
I don’t think so… As long as we:
Make our wins valuable
And I mean really truly valuable to the core of our soul. Not what society tells you you should aim for, not what your parents are telling you, nor your friends. Shaping your ideal wins by who you really are and what you value the most will give you that true sense of fulfilment.
Take some conscious time to appreciate it
In our busy lifestyles we usually forget to pause and have a little moment for ourselves. Remember how you passed your driving license or got your first job. The feeling is still there. The feeling that you made it. Despite the fact your measurement for success might have changed by now, take some time to appreciate what you have achieved so far.
It's all about the balance
Don’t get me wrong. I am not saying to focus only on the past. I am just insisting that our previous successes are just as important as our current ones and as our future goals. It’s all about the balance. And fulfilment is somewhere in the middle of it all.
We are putting our wins in the bin and that's okay as long as that bin is covered in diamonds with a label on it TO BE PROUD OF and a notification setting to remind us every so often to look back and appreciate how far we have come.
Sincerely yours,
Elena
